Mission

Harrison Electric strives to provide the highest quality services and products to meet our customers’ needs.

Brief History

Harrison Electric has been in Business since 1962. In the 1970s, we were owned by a gentleman named Lou Halter, who at the time was looking to get out of the business. Tom Walma was working for General Electric at the time and had worked at many of their facilities including  Cleveland, OH  and  Schenectady, NY. In the late ’70s Mr. Walma was a motor shop foreman at GE’s Flint, MI plant. He read Mr. Halter’s advertisement in the EASA magazine and began working for Harrison Electric in 1980. In 1985, Mr. Walma took over as owner of Harrison.

At that time, Harrison Electric was located in Michigan City Indiana in a 5000 square foot facility and employed 3 workers. The first thing we did was hire a salesperson. Business began to increase as the building became too small. In 1992, he constructed a 17,000 square foot building on the south side of Michigan City, IN. In 2009, he constructed a 5,000 building on the same property. In 2015, a 15,000 square foot expansion was added to the larger building, including a 50 ton crane.

In late 2022, Harrison Electric merged with Spina Electric motor company. Their facility is located in Warren, MI. Harrison Electric personnel are excited about this merger and can’t wait to write the next chapter of the organization.

Flash forward to Today

Capabilities

Since its initial beginning, Harrison Electric has grown to the 35,000 square ft. facility that it is today, employing 25 people at the Indiana facility alone. We’ve invested in equipment to handle large industrial motors as well as the addition of an in-house machine shop to save time and money by making their own machining repairs.

In addition to offering AC and DC motor repair and recondition, the business now offers:

  • Substation maintenance and repair
  • Welder repair
  • Servo motor repair
  • Preventive maintenance for motors and switchgear
  • A large inventory of used motors

And we continue to grow, adding equipment, services, and employees.
